Sam Jackson sets us straight in the second-and-even-more-mind-blowing trailer for Captain Marvel, the Skrulls are the bad guys, the Kree are the noble warrior heroes (or are they?). If you keep that in mind, then the shocking scene from the first trailer of Brie Larson punching an old lady in the face starts making some sense. It’s an ah-ha moment that was worth the wait.
It was September when the first trailer for the new movie dropped, introducing mainstream audiences to the slightly less-known Marvel hero. The story as it starts to come to light through the new trailer looks like the film will be based on two main comic book storylines, the first being the Avengers comics from the 1970s about the Kree-Skrull War and the second is Kelly Sue DeConnick Captain Marvel books. The intricacies of how it will be covered in the movie, of course, are mostly shrouded – will she be teaming up with the Avengers? What is Ronan the Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy doing there? Is that Jude Law? Is that cat a flerken? – we do know that Brie Larson is bringing the feminist power vibe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the same dynamic style that Gal Godot brought to DC.
Of course, there is slightly more that should come to before the movie premieres March 8, 2019. What is certain is that Marvel is bringing their A-Game to 2019.
